The plug blades are damaged

If only one appliance or charger falls out, inspect its plug without touching the metal blades while it is connected. Bent, loose, corroded, or damaged blades point to a cord or device problem. A heavy adapter is pulling downward

Paint, debris, or physical damage is present

What You Can Check Without Opening the Outlet

A simple comparison can help separate a plug problem from an outlet problem. Unplug the device by holding the plug body, then try another undamaged, ordinary plug in the same receptacle. You can also try the original device in another outlet that is known to work properly.

  • If one plug is loose everywhere, the cord or device is the likely problem.

Do not insert tools, foil, plastic tabs, or other objects into the slots. Do not open the receptacle or remove it from the box while energized. These shortcuts do not repair worn contacts and can create shock, heat, or arcing hazards.

When a Loose Receptacle Should Be Replaced

A receptacle that repeatedly releases normal plugs has reached the point where replacement is the dependable solution. There is no safe adjustment from the front that rebuilds its internal spring tension. Replacement is also appropriate when the device is cracked, painted inside the slots, warped, scorched, unusually warm, or noisy.

The electrician can confirm that the receptacle rating matches the circuit, inspect the conductors and terminations, verify grounding and polarity, secure the device to the box, and look for heat damage or other conditions that need attention.
